Two Tips Tuesday – Curtains

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday.

As you can see, today we are talking about curtains. Some of us have curtains on our windows and glass shower doors in our bathroom. And some of us have blinds for our windows and shower curtains in our bathroom. Just as glass shower doors and blinds need special care so do the curtains and shower curtains need special care as well.

Tip #1 – Pressed Window Curtains. I have these long white curtains in my living room that I love (I got them at Ikea).  Because these curtains are cotton they tend to get wrinkled very easily. Ironing curtains is very low (at the bottom) on my list of favorite chores to do (I really don’t like ironing – LOL!) I needed to find a way to iron them that wouldn’t take up a lot of time and not make the chore so terrible. What I did was buy a good garment steamer like the one you see in the photo above on the left (Black & Decker with blue base). I can have the curtains actually hanging on the rod and go up and down steam pressing them. This makes it way easier and way faster. Not so terrible of a chore now. Done!

Tip #2 – Clean Shower Curtains. I don’t know about you but trying to get the bathroom curtains and vinyl liners really clean can be frustrating because it is not a hard surface that you can scrub. I have found a way to get both the shower curtain and the liner clean at the same time. Your washing machine. I take both the curtain and liner and put them in the washing machine on warm cycle using laundry detergent. While they are washing I clean the bathroom. When the cycle finishes, take out the curtain first and then be careful to lift the liner out letting the water drain from it into the machine’s drum (speaking from experience – water puddles all over the floor – LOL!). I usually wrap the vinyl one into the cloth one and carry it like that to the bathroom. Hang them back up wet and let them dry on their own. Because they are hanging, as they dry it helps take the wrinkles out. Done!
