Christmas in July Series – Baby Jesus

The origins of the term Christmas in July is not totally clear.  Some believe it is because it is so hot in summer that everyone is wishing for some cooler days.  Some believe it is because for places in the Southern Hemisphere like Australia – July is at the height of their winter season. Today’s devotional starts this month’s weekly series titled “Christmas in July.”

Matthew 1:21 – “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:21

When people think of Christmas, they tend to think about the Christmas tree, the presents, spending time with family, oh yes, and baby Jesus.  Everybody loves baby Jesus.  Jesus is seen as the cute little baby in a manger.  FYI – there is no longer a baby Jesus.  He was born, a baby, but became a man and died on the cross because of our sins.  His name, Jesus, in Greek is Iēsous which means Jehovah is salvation.  Jesus, our Savior, being God emptied Himself in complete humility and obedience to God.  Being born – baby Jesus – He did not remain a baby.

Philippians 2:6-8 – who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:6-8

Ladies, does our lives bear fruit of salvation or are we still holding on to baby Jesus?

“Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour down righteousness; let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, and righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.

Isaiah 45:8

Maybe we don’t even know what that looks like.  If that is you, I invite you to repent of your sins and be saved onto eternal life with the only one who can give salvation to you – Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16

May our heart’s cry daily be to bear the fruit of salvation!

Ephesians 4:24 – and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ephesians 4:24
